Krzysztof Ścierański at Guitar Expo!
27.01.2026
Krzysztof Ścierański is not only an outstanding bassist and composer, but also – as he has demonstrated on numerous occasions – an excellent guitarist. In artistic circles, he needs no introduction; just mention his name and everyone knows exactly who you are talking about.
He creates improvised instrumental music. According to Jazz Forum magazine, he has been Poland's best jazz bass guitarist since 1984. Over the past 50 years of creative and not only jazz-rock activity, he has made a name for himself as a member of famous Polish bands: Anawa, Laboratorium, Air Condition, String Connection, and then as the leader of supergroups founded in the 1980s: Ścierański Surzyn Trio, Ścierański Trio, Music Painters, The Colors, New Quartet, Ścierański Quartet. Marek Grechuta, Zbigniew Namysłowski, Wojciech Karolak, Krzesimir Dębski, Jarek Śmietana, Tomasz Stańko, and Janusz Muniak were the best teachers for his musical education and development.
It is impossible to list all the bands and performers with whom he has collaborated, recorded albums, and created soundtracks for films, plays, and other projects. The wide spectrum of his activity is evidenced by the 163 albums, including 12 of his own, in his discography.
He has played at international jazz festivals in 27 European countries, as well as in India, Indonesia, Canada, and the United States (Jazz Jamboree, Jazz Yatra '78, Jak Jazz Jakarta, Zurich Jazz Fest, North Sea Jazz Fest, Reno Jazz Fest, International Jazz Fest Montreal). His participation in joint performances has been appreciated by such world-renowned artists as Pat Metheny, Paul Wertico, Carlos Johnson, Bill Bruford, Will Calhoun, Carl Palmer, Buddy Miles, Esperanza Spalding, Boby McFerrin, and others.
He is also a creator of sonorous sounds and techniques, a pioneer of unique solo recitals on the bass guitar, and a virtuoso of improvised music. Above all, however, this guitar warrior makes us feel that beautiful melodies are a cure for today's strange experiments and, at the same time, a reminder that form, rhythm, and harmony are the most important elements of music.
In September 2024, he was awarded the Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage and the Honoris Gratia medal by the Mayor of Krakow. In November 2024, he was awarded the Pro Masovia medal by the Marshal of the Mazovia Province.
Krzysztof Ścierański has confirmed his participation in Guitar Expo! You will be able to meet this outstanding musician on both Saturday and Sunday!
