Alex Scholpp - Tarja Turunen's guitarist at Guitar Expo

08.01.2026

Alex Scholpp is a German guitarist and composer from Stuttgart, known as one of the most versatile rock and metal musicians in Europe. He began his career at a young age, quickly shifting his passion from acoustic guitar to electric guitar. In the mid-1990s, he co-founded the band Farmer Boys, with whom he recorded several albums and toured Europe. In addition to Farmer Boys, Scholpp has been active as a guitarist in projects such as Tieflader and Sinner, and has also been involved in session recordings and production collaborations with other artists.

A turning point in his career was his collaboration with Finnish singer Tarja Turunen, which began in 2007, shortly after she left the band Nightwish. Since then, Scholpp has been Turunen's lead guitarist both on stage and in the recording studio, participating in all of her major solo releases and concert tours. Together with Tarja, Brahms was invited to record guitars on albums such as My Winter Storm and What Lies Beneath, and their collaboration includes not only live performances, but also the creation and arrangement of studio music.

Alongside his work with Tarja Scholpp, he continued to work intensively on other musical projects. In addition to continuing his work with Farmer Boys, he was a member of The Help (together with Flo Dauner and Doug Wimbish) and also co-created material and concerts with Tieflader and Sinner. His experience also includes session recordings with artists such as the German group Die Fantastischen Vier. In addition, Scholpp shares his musical knowledge as an instructor, running his own guitar school, Alex Scholpp's Guitar Camp, in Stuttgart since 2003.

In addition to his concert performances and educational activities, Scholpp is recognized as an endorser of major guitar instrument and equipment brands. He collaborates with amplifier manufacturer Blackstar, conducting demonstrations and recording promotional material for their equipment. His longstanding presence in the international music scene, and particularly his close collaboration with Tarja Turunen during her solo career, confirms his status as a highly regarded and versatile guitarist in the rock and metal genres.
