13.02.2026

Tomasz Grabowy is one of the most recognizable Polish jazz and fusion bassists, active on the scene since the early 1990s. He became known to a wide audience as a co-founder of the Funky Groove quartet, with which he has performed at the most important jazz festivals in Poland since 1994, such as Jazz Jamboree, Summer Jazz Days, and Jazz nad Odrą. Early in his career, he made his mark on the scene as an instrumentalist with a distinctive sound, strong feeling, and great improvisational freedom.

Since 1995, he has been a member of the legendary Walk Away band, with which he has toured extensively in Poland and abroad. As part of the band's activities, he has collaborated with many world jazz stars, including Randy Brecker, Frank Gambale, Eric Marienthal, and Mino Cinelo. At the same time, he has developed his career as a session and concert musician, collaborating with artists such as Michał Urbaniak, Urszula Dudziak, and Dave Samuels. His experience also includes international concert tours, including performances in Ireland alongside Henry McCullough.

Grabowy is also the initiator and co-creator of original projects, including the Vibraslap duo with drummer Miłosz Rutkowski. This collaboration has resulted in the albums Vibraslap and Different Worlds, which present a modern approach to groove and improvisation. Over the years, the artist has repeatedly ranked high in industry polls, winning awards for best rhythm section and distinctions for the band Funky Groove in the electric jazz category.

An important area of Tomasz Grabowy's activity is music education. Between 2006 and 2019, he taught bass guitar at the Wrocław School of Jazz and Popular Music, educating successive generations of instrumentalists. He is the author of the educational publications Moja Basówka (My Bass) and Szkoła Improwizacji w Pochodach Basowych (School of Improvisation in Bass Lines), as well as a regular lecturer at music workshops, including during the Blues nad Bobrem festival. His activities combine stage, studio, and teaching work, making him one of the most important figures on the Polish jazz scene.
