Krzysztof Misiak – one of Poland's best guitarists, at Guitar Expo
16.01.2026
Krzysztof Misiak was born in 1966 in Gostynin and since the early 1980s has consistently built his position as a composer, guitarist, and music producer with exceptional artistic sensitivity. His playing style is characterized by an expressive, technically advanced guitar language, thanks to which he has become one of the most recognizable Polish instrumentalists over the years. Misiak is also a respected educator and music journalist, writing a column for Gazeta na Mazowszu and publishing articles and teaching materials about the guitar.
Throughout his career, Misiak has consistently released original albums, developing and shaping his own musical language, often referred to in the media as"hate-jazz"—a unique fusion of different styles that transcends the boundaries of traditional genres. His albums include Telegramy, Zdjęcie z Misiem (Photo with Misiak), Wydaje mi się... (I Think...), Wyjątkowo Kulturalny Weekend (An Exceptionally Cultural Weekend), Nowe Okoliczności (New Circumstances), 5.1, Siłami natury (Forces of Nature), Kod genetyczny (Genetic Code), Melancholia (Melancholy), and Asymetria (Asymmetry). Although these releases are firmly rooted in instrumental virtuosity, they demonstrate his openness to orchestral arrangements, jazz harmonies, and sound experiments.
Misiak has also gained recognition from critics and the music community outside of his solo albums. In 1998, he was featured in the prestigious American magazine Guitar Player as the hero of "Lick of the Month." He has repeatedly won first place in national polls, including the title of "Best Rock Guitarist" in a poll conducted by Gitara and Bas + Bębny magazines (Gitarowy Top '04). He also received an award for his participation in the recording of the 1999 Album of the Year, Mietek Jurecki's "12 Sprawiedliwych" (12 Righteous Men).
Misiak actively participated in numerous team projects, showcasing his skills in various musical genres. He was the leader of the bands 3 Jazz Soldiers and S.O.S., specializing in jazz-rock and fusion, as well as the bassist in the hard-core group Medusa. He collaborated with artists from the Polish music scene, such as Marek Biliński, Chylińska, Mietek Jurecki, Krzysztof Ścierański, Wojciech Pilichowski, and Marek Raduli, as well as with foreign musicians, including Steve Vai, Steve Morse, and Doogie White (Rainbow). He was also a co-founder of the Płock-based blues-rock band Rybie Łości, and his concert activity included performances at numerous festivals and musical projects, from jam sessions to multimedia historical concerts and jazz experiments.
Misiak's activities are not limited to the studio and rehearsal rooms – he is also an active lecturer at guitar workshops (including in Gdynia, Bolesławiec, Jaworzno, and Darmstadt), an organizer of culture-creating musical initiatives, and a co-creator of festivals. As the musical director of the Drama Theater in Płock and co-founder of the Rockowe Ogródki and Płockie Konfrontacje Gitarowe festivals, he supports the development of young talent and the promotion of musical culture. He has collaborated with many Polish and international artists, strengthening his reputation not only in jazz and progressive circles, but also as a versatile and exploratory musician.
